The Senior boys played Kelly road in the first game on Friday night, where they won solidly for the second time this season. Jesse Baker won player of the game, providing energy and clutch defence to seal the victory. The boys took a tough loss to a very good DP Todd team on Saturday morning. Jacob Zeibart’s solid shooting and gutsy defence garnered him player of the game. The bronze medal game was the best game of the season for the boys, with a big win over PGSS. This was a revenge game, after losing to them in the championship game of the the Dawson Creek tournament in December. It was an all out team effort, but Ethyn Lang left it all on the floor, earning player of the game, while strong performances from Liam Peterson and Adrian Loewen bolstered the victory.
The Junior girls were in Dawson over the weekend where they started strong on Friday night, winning against Dr Kearney to earn a match up against Dawson Creek grade 9s on Saturday. Getting the W against the Gr. 9 team, the Grizzlies found themselves in a rematch with the Dawson 10s in the final. After a strong start, the girls hit a slump in the 2nd quarter and Dawson went up by 20. The Grizzlies came back in the second half to pull within 8, but they didn’t have enough left in the tank to pull ahead and finished the tournament in 2nd place. Isabella Ziebart earned Tournament MVP.
The Junior boys were in action once again this past weekend in Dawson Creek for their last warm up tournament before Regionals. The Grizzlies got in three solid games over the weekend starting Friday night when they matched up against Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. The Grizzlies came out flat to start the game, which saw a tightly contested first half, and a Grizzlies three-point lead at half. In the second half the Grizzlies took control of the game playing strong defence and pushing the pace of the game to a quicker level. When the final buzzer sounded the Grizzlies took a convincing win with every member of the team getting on the score sheet in the game for the first time this season. The Grizzlies were in tough in the finals missing three players and needing big minutes from players off the bench. For the first time of the weekend the boys started the game ready to play and came out fast to take an early lead. Dawson fought back with shot making and a quick transition game to take a lead at half time. The Grizzlies made a few adjustments and got big minutes from some of the bench in the second half and made a strong run at the Dawson team, but when the final buzzer sounded the boys took second place with an eight-point loss to the DCSS Junior Team.
