]]>Additionally, the Varsity girls competed in an intense weekend of ups and downs demonstrating perseverance. In the semi finals the girls battled their way to a 3rd set coming back to win 15-11. Demonstrating great court vision at times resulted in strong, smart and structured points. Coach Alex Bacso said, “ on the court there was a lot of joy and appreciation to be playing in close games and earning positive outcomes. NPSS has been building this program for years, and the dedication of the players is starting to pay dividends.” The Varsity senior girls placed 2nd overall at the Pow Wow tournament.
The cross country team was in Dawson Creek competing at Bear Mountain Ski Hill where all runners placed in the top 5 across the senior and junior events. A little muddy but a lot of fun!

]]>The Varsity Boys started slow, dropping the first two sets to GP Vanier. In game 2, the boys brought the intensity as they won both sets against the host team Hilltop. The final match on day 1 was an exciting battle against Athabasca. The team started to drop points, but they fought their way back into action for each point; however, Athabasca was able to complete the push for the win. The boys finished 3rd in their pool for the round-robin. Saturday, the varsity team competed in the Tier 2 division against Peace High. The boys demonstrated a solid first and third set; however, Peace High won the match and Tier 2 Division. Overall, the varsity team gained momentum and progressed in a positive direction this weekend.
The Varsity Girls team demonstrated that teamwork and composure create success in tight matches. The girls played strong all weekend, going undefeated to the finals. It was an exciting 3 set final against the host team, Hilltop Chargers. Jillian Stone and Avery Hucker played vital roles in executing skills to push the varsity girls to win the tournament. Alexandra Bacso, the coach, said she is proud of the girls for implementing what they practiced and demonstrating poise and perseverance this weekend.
The Junior Girls Volleyball team traveled to Dawson Creek for a play weekend that consisted of three games. The girls demonstrated skills they have been working on in practice and, in competitive spirit, won 2 out of the three matches this weekend. The team continues to improve each chance they get.
The cross country team was in Beaverlodge on Saturday. Kane Schreiner and Ronin Laurie finished in 1st and 3rd place respectively in the Senior Boys category. At the same time, Elanor Copes took 3rd place in Senior Girls. Congrats to all the runners who competed! Next up, the Grizzlies are in Dawson Creek on October 16th. Varsity Volleyball is in Grande Prairie, October 15th & 16th.

]]>The senior girls demonstrated their great strengths and areas they need to improve for the future. The best display was against the host team DP Todd with a tough loss 22-25 and 24-26. But, in general, the girls enjoyed getting back to play competitive games this weekend, learning a lot along the way.
The senior boy’s volleyball team started slow, dropping both sets of the first match. However, as the boys struggled to win, they demonstrated significant improvements by building chemistry off the court and increasing their intensity on the court. Overall, the weekend went very well. They came out of the tournament with key goals to work on in the coming weeks. This team has a bright future ahead of them.

]]>Congratulations to the Cross Country team (including athletes from North Peace, Bert Bowes and Dr Kearney) for their great race at the Beaverlodge Boogie on Saturday. Grade 12 Jordynn McPherson took 3rd place in the Senior Girls 5KM, while Grade 11 Carter Collins and Grade 12 Tristan Hynes both put in a great effort in the Senior Boys 7KM. Coach Samantha Stackhouse also raced in the Open Women’s Division and finished in 1st place. Shout out to Bert Bowes athletes Israel (1st place) and Avery (5th) and Dr Kearney athletes Isabel (2nd) and Paige (4th) for their efforts in the Junior Girls division.
Up Next: Senior boys and girls volleyball teams are headed to Whitecourt on Friday for their second tournament of the season. Junior girls volleyball play at home on Friday and Saturday at Dr Kearney. Cross Country runners will be competing at home on Saturday at Fish Creek.
Athlete of the Week: Jordynn McPherson (Grade 12, Cross Country). Jordy had a great race on Saturday, fishing in 3rd place after overtaking a runner in the last 400m with a great final push.

]]>Our Senior Girls soccer team kicked off the Spring Season in Vancouver last week at the Kick Off Tournament hosted by UBC. The girls lost to Argyle in their first game of the tournament on Thursday, but finished the day with a strong 4-1 win over Crofton House in the afternoon. Goals were scored by Emma Close, Jayd Gorsic, Claire Turner and Jordynn McPherson. Jayd Gorsic received player of the game. The girls had another good day on Friday, going down 2-1 to Alpha but rallying and finishing the day with a 5-1 win over Shawnigan Lake. Goals were scored by Jayd Gorsic, Maddy Holloway (2) and Emma Close (2). Maelynne Wan received player of the game. The Grizzlies continue their southern tour this week on Vancouver Island.
Senior Boys Rugby had their first 7s tournament of the season this weekend in Grande Prairie. The Grizzlies entered two teams in the tournament and placed 5th and 2nd. It was a very positive weekend for the boys and the team is looking forward to the season.

]]>Senior Boys Basketball was down in Vancouver competing at AAAA Provincials last week. The boys drew a tough opponent in their first game on Wednesday night, matching up against #1 seed Holy Cross. The Grizzlies started the game slow, digging themselves a bit of a hole in the first half. The boys turned it around in the second half, lead by Gr. 11 Liam Peterson with 28 points and 10 rebounds, to finish the game 67-107. The second game of the tournament saw the boys take on #8 seed West Vancouver. Liam Peterson lead the way again, with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 steals. In a much closer game, the Grizzlies went down 63-80. Then boys lost to Walnut Grove in the 3rd game, putting them up against Mount Baker on Friday night. With big performances from Earl Concepcion (13 points, 7 rebounds), Mason Miranda (14 points, 12 steals), Liam Peterson (11 points, 8 rebounds) and Ethyn Lang (14 points) the Grizzlies had their closest game of the tournament. They lead for half of the game, but couldn’t clinch in the win, and lost a nail-biter 77-75 to finish 16th. Congratulations to the boys on a great season!

To celebrate the end of the season, the NPSS Student Council arranged a pep rally on Tuesday. Students watched as the girls and boys teams competed against each other. The local band ‘Summit†performed the halftime show.
